On Monday, April 16, 2012, Wind power in Spain broke their own record
Wind produced more than 60% of the electricity consumed in Spain during the early hours of this morning
During the early hours of the morning, at 3:48 am, 60.46% of the demand on the Spanish peninsula (21,098 MW) was covered by wind power generation (12,757 MW), a figure which exceeds the previous maximum of 59.63% recorded at 2:00 am on 6 November 2011.
During this last weekend, the electricity system operator issued orders regarding the maximum wind power penetration level, which at specific times, ranged between 11,000 MW and 14,979 MW; these technical restrictions had only a slight impact on production from wind power.
This event represented a new challenge that Red Eléctrica, as system operator, was well capable of managing without putting the security of the supply at risk.
