Pro and Cons of Nuclear
The dangers of nuclear power have been greatly exaggerated. The deaths from Chernobyl total a mere 45 after 20 years compared with huge mortality in mining and processing coal, for example. The world's residual radiation from Chernobyl has been estimated at one hundredth of the legacy of the great powers nuclear testing programmes.
However it appears, based on relative cost, that nuclear fission will be a limited option for those countries who do not have adequate wind, solar, geothermal and tidal resources.
If nuclear fusion power is achieved then the economics and problems of waste will be totally different. Now the Chinese are providing another option the world has largely rejected - thorium power.
