The Eventual Sea Level

Opinions differ on when all the ice on earth might be completely melted. The recent estimates of the International Committee on Climate Change estimate it will take 10,000 years even if the global average temperature were to reach 20 degrees centigrade. Others feel the thick Antactic Ice could be undermined and slide into the sea more rapidly.

There is less difference of opinion on the resultant rise in sea level of about 65 metres. This will vary depending on the temperature increase in the oceans themselves as well as on the actual volume of the land based ice in Greenland and the Antarctic.

When significant melting is undeniable there will be panic to relocate to higher ground. As it will be difficult then to reverse or slow further melting, all property below 65 metres will rapidly lose its value.

This map shows the areas which will need to be vacated.

The following map shows what the British Isles will then look like.

Looks good for Welsh Nationalists but not too good for a United Ireland!

A rise in the region of 2 metres appears likely in the next 100 years and this could be bad enough.
