As a friend of the Eden project I attended a special talk on climate change at the project today

The talk had been arranged by Tim Smit and was intended for Eden project Staff and friends interested in communicating environmental aspects and aims particularly Climate change to skeptics and deniers. It was given by George Marshall who is the author of the book “Don't Even Think About It: Why Our Brains Are Wired to Ignore Climate Change”

Here is an extract of the flyer.

Over the past 25 years he has worked at all levels of the environmental movement. The Oxford based Climate Outreach and Information Network in 2004, which he founded in 2004, has become a pioneer in climate change communications, and widely respected for its work with new audiences. Its specialist programme on communicating with people of conservative values, which George leads, is the only one of its kind outside the USA. George is a lead advisor to the Welsh governments, major environmental networks, and has led academic, government and campaign training around the world.

George will present his experience of how to start a truly public conversation about climate change and overcoming denial and socially constructed silence. He will argue we can only find effective and compelling narratives for action on climate change by understanding and reflecting people’s values and shared identity. Among other things he will introduce Climate Outreach’s latest research for the Scottish government on initiating climate change engagement and wider work on reaching non-“green”, conservative and faith audiences including his emerging work across India.

His presentation was impressive and had some very useful approaches to getting difficult and important ideas over to a skeptical or somewhat less than interested audience.

His main organisation website is  http://climateoutreach.org
