I feel it would be valuable to have a critical evaluation of vertical wind turbines. Those with a horizontal axis have their advantages but we should be able to understand the conditions in which vertical wind turbines would be effective for the following reasons:

1 The vibration and noise of horizontal turbines makes them undesirable near habitation.

2 The appearance of vertical turbines can make them more attractive in a home environment.

3 Some could have solar cells on the blades providing dual energy sources.

4 They perform better in higher winds or where the direction is variable.
